“The Oprah Winfrey Show” next Tuesday, November 24 (check local listings). Oprah teamed up with People magazine and together they held a private celebration on the Ft. Bragg military base to welcome home the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team returning from Iraq. As part of an action-packed hour of celebration, Wynonna and the Palmetto State Quartet gave a surprise welcome home performance, saluting the well-deserving troops and their families. 

Wynonna Judd will join Santa Claus aboard the 67^th annual Santa Train this Saturday, Nov. 21, kicking off the holiday season for thousands of families in Appalachia.

Wynonna, along with her two children, will join Santa Train volunteers from the train’s sponsors CSX, Food City and the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce to distribute more than 15 tons of toys and gifts to thousands of people gathered at scheduled stops along the train’s route from Shelby, Ky, to Kingsport, Tenn. tracks. Riding the Santa Train marks Wynonna’s return to the Appalachian region after having grown up near the train’s route in Ashland, Ky.

“I decided to ride the Santa Train this year because I wanted to bring my children home to Appalachia for the holidays,” Wynonna said. “It is important to me for them to experience the joy of Christmas giving.”

Wynonna, winner of five Grammy awards and eight CMA awards, recently celebrated 25 years in the music business and will kick off her third annual ‘A Classic Christmas’ tour the weekend following Thanksgiving.

“The Santa Train is such a special way to begin the holiday season, and we are thrilled to have Wynonna join us for this wonderful event,” said Tori Kaplan, director of corporate citizenship and special events for CSX.

For the third year in a row Wynonna will bring holiday cheer to fifteen cities across the country. Her A Classic Christmas tour, named after her 2006 Top 10 Billboard Country album, will place Wynonna and her team of ‘musical elves’ on a coast-to-coast tour of the U.S. 

Wynonna’s Christmas tour kicks off November 28, 2009 in Hershey, PA where she will bring soulful performances of both beloved seasonal classics and her biggest hits to cities and fans that did not have the opportunity to experience it in years past.

“I decided to ride the Santa Train this year because I want for my children to experience as much as they can. I also want to teach them about other people and what their life experiences are like,” Wynonna said.

The Santa Train will make 14 stops in the mountains of Kentucky, Judd’s home state, Virginia and Tennessee. Wynonna, along with Santa Claus and volunteers will deliver 15 tons of toys, including six pallets donated by the Children’s Miracle Network, to thousands of residents who live along the route.
